HILLSIDE - Two New Jersey state troopers helped deliver a baby after the infant’s mother went into labor on the Garden State Parkway.

The baby was born just before 4:30 a.m. Monday. The mother was being driven to the hospital by her husband when they realized they were not going to make it in time. They pulled over near exit 143 in Hillside Township and called 911.

Troopers Alex Muro and Arnaldo Mateo responded to the scene and helped to deliver the baby. Dashcam video shows the troopers encouraging the mother to push while they offered her comfort.

At 4:26 a.m., the baby girl was born. The troopers assisted with cutting the umbilical cord and the mother and baby were taken to the hospital. Both are said to be doing well.

Troopers have helped deliver several babies on the side of New Jersey’s highways in recent months.
