WOODBRIDGE - Two firefighters are recovering from smoke inhalation after fighting a house fire in Woodbridge Wednesday.

Residents of the home say they discovered the fire at around 10 a.m.

Crews were able to extinguish the blaze on Harrell Avenue in 20 minutes. The flames were confined to the basement and first floor of the home.

"Two firefighters got disoriented and had to call a mayday," Woodbridge Fire Lt. Keith Repace says. "They had to evacuate head-first out the first-floor window down a ladder."

The cause of the blaze is still under investigation. Reports say the elderly couple living there wasn’t injured.
