2 firefighters suffer heat-related injuries in Paterson fires

PATERSON - Two firefighters were taken to an area hospital after fighting two separate house fires in Paterson this afternoon.

Fire officials say the two fire captains suffered heat-related injuries. Temperatures are in the low-90s today with high humidity.

The first blaze broke out in a two-story home on 16th Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard. The second fire apparently started on the second floor of a home on 17th Avenue and East 38th Street.

Occupants inside that home were unaware of the blaze. Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey they alerted the people in the home to evacuate.

Fire officials are asking residents not to open fire hydrants in order to preserve water needed to fight future fires.
