NEWARK - Essex County prosecutors are investigating two separate homicides in Newark.

The first death occurred shortly before 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

City officers responding to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of Camden Street found 26-year-old Bruce Turner lying on a sidewalk, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead there a short time later.

The killing marks the 105th and last murder in Newark for 2015.

The second death was discovered around 2:10 a.m. New Year’s Day.

Officers responding to a domestic disturbance call in an apartment in the 100 block of Spruce Street found an unresponsive 36-year-old man who was pronounced dead there a short time later.

The victim was identified by friends as Bernard Balliou. The cause of death has not been determined, but authorities say it appears Balliou was hurt during the domestic-related altercation.

Anyone with information about either murder is asked to call the prosecutor’s office at 877-847-7432 or 973-621-4586.

The Associated Press wire service contributed to this report.
