2 charged when stolen car crashes into police cars

NEWARK - Two men were arrested when the stolen car they were in crashed into two empty police cruisers that were parked at the scene of a double shooting in Newark.

Authorities say the driver of the black Jaguar apparently accelerated just before the car struck the cruisers around 8 p.m. Saturday. The stolen car then flipped over and the men tried to run off, but both were soon apprehended.

Authorities say the Jaguar had been stolen earlier that night during a carjacking in Bloomfield. Police say one of the men was carrying keys for several other vehicles believed to have been recently carjacked.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
