2 bodies discovered after brush fire in Paterson

PATERSON - Firefighters extinguishing a small brush fire early this morning found the badly burned bodies of a man and a woman in a wooded area off Route 80 in Paterson.

New Jersey State Police officials say a passerby noticed flames at around 2:30 a.m. on the westbound side near the Route 19 exit. They say the bodies were found inside a makeshift cardboard and plastic structure, believed to be their home.

State police Sgt. Brian Polite says, "It appears that the fire did start from inside? We think that the fire started as a result of them trying to keep warm or them trying to heat up some food."

Authorities say a preliminary investigation has found that the two died of smoke inhalation and at this time, they do not suspect foul play.
