2 arrested in deadly Cliffside Park shooting

CLIFFSIDE PARK - Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting in Cliffside Park that left one person dead early Sunday morning.

Hector Zabala Jr., 33, was gunned down at around 2:30 a.m. in the doorway of a minimart near the intersection of Anderson and Columbia avenues. According to police, Zabala was shot after he exited a bar down the street with the suspect, 38-year-old Michael Sampson. Witnesses reported seeing the two arguing in the bar earlier in the evening.

Sampson has been charged with first-degree murder. His girlfriend, 33-year-old Jacquelin Pierro, was arrested for allegedly harboring a fugitive. Police say she was also a witness to the shooting.
