14-year-old alleged carjacker shot by Newark police

NEWARK - A 14-year-old boy was shot by police during an alleged attempted carjacking in Newark early Monday.

Officers were called to the city's Ironbound section at approximately 9:30 a.m. on a report of a carjacking on Oliver Street.

Police say the suspect driving the car backed up toward officers and one of those officers fired.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a local hospital. There is no word yet on his condition. Both he and a passenger were arrested.

Sources tell News 12 New Jersey that the alleged carjackers were just 14 and 15 years old.
