BRICK TOWNSHIP - Authorities are investigating a 12-car pileup in Brick Township that killed one woman.

The crash happened late this morning on the Beaver Dam Bridge as a batch of freezing rain moved through central and southern parts of the state. The span connects Brick to Point Pleasant.

Brad Barrows was involved in the frightening crash and says black ice made the roadway slick and his tires just could not get traction. "As we got to the top of the bridge, we realized we were on ice as I was coming down. There were already several cars bundled together,” he says.

Police say the pileup began when Margaret Brady,76, struck another vehicle and then got out of her car. She was then struck by at least one other car and killed, which set off a chain reaction of collisions.

Four other people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
