NEWARK - Newark Mayor Cory Booker is kicking off a campaign aimed at identifying key areas in the city that are most critical to improving the education system.

The campaign is part of the first phase of the $100 million makeover of the Newark school system that's being funded by Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.

Mayor Booker announced this morning an initiative to reach out to parents of the city's schoolchildren to find out what's working and what isn't.

Over the next two months, Booker said canvassers will knock on doors and make phone calls. The effort will be augmented by billboards and ads on city buses.

The goal is get parents more involved in the educational process, said Mayor Booker.
