NEW YORK - (AP) - Steel construction has reached the halfway pointfor 1 World Trade Center, the building that many people still callthe Freedom Tower.

After years of stalled development, steel at the buildingreached the 52nd story yesterday, more than 600 feet above ground.

The tower is slated to stand at 104 stories, with an antennareaching hundreds of feet higher, bringing it to a symbolic 1,776feet - the tallest in the city.

The building was renamed to better attract corporate tenants.But the Freedom Tower name has stuck for many, and still remains onthe Lower Manhattan Development Corporation's website detailing therebuilding.

The skyscraper is one of several envisioned at a rebuilt site,along with a September 11 memorial, transit hub and performing artscenter.
