ELIZABETH - Police are investigating a robbery at a motel overnight that left one suspect dead and other injured when police fired on them.

Police say they were responding to reports of two men robbing guests in their room at the Knights Inn motel on Spring Street.

Investigators say when the police arrived they confronted the two suspects and one of the suspects opened fire, prompting police to return fire.

Guests at the motel say about eight shots were fired during the confrontation.

Authorities say 25-year-old Jahind Davis was killed by police while his accomplice 18-year-old Jaquil Spurill was injured.

Police are continuing to investigate why the two men were attempting to rob the guests at the motel.
