EDISON - One person was killed in a crash on Route 27 in Edison.

The crash happened around 2 p.m. on Route 27 near Plainfield Avenue. Witnesses tell News 12 New Jersey that a man driving a U-Haul was traveling on the wrong side of Route 27 and seemed to be speeding and driving erratically.

Witness Jay Desi says that a U-Haul truck almost struck him before crashing into two other cars.

Another witness, Brian Dalieda, says that the driver of the U-Haul tried to get out of the car after the crash and didn’t seem to understand what had happened. Dalieda says that he thought he smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath.

The driver of the U-Haul and one of the drivers involved in the crash were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

Route 27 in the area of the crash was closed for a time while emergency crews worked to clear the accident.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is investigating the crash.
