NEWARK - Police say one person was killed and three others were wounded in a drive-by shooting last night in Newark's West Ward.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office says that Al-Tariq Harris, 21, was shot and killed in front of a convenience store at 14th Avenue and South 18th Street at about 7:15 p.m.

When police arrived, they found four men shot. The other three, ages 19 to 22 were taken to University Hospital. One was released and the other two were in stable condition.

Police did not have a motive for the shootings and could not say if they were related to two shootings on Monday in which one person was killed and 11 others wounded. Authorities say 16 people have been shot this week in Newark.

AP wire services contributed to this report.
