1 killed, 2 injured in violent Newark crash

NEWARK - A violent crash at a busy Newark intersection killed one man and injured two others.

The crash happened at around 10:30 a.m. at the intersection of Springfield and Morris avenues, about a block from a firehouse.

Witnesses on the scene reported seeing a red work truck racing down 16th Avenue, swerving around other vehicles, including a bus, before slicing through a minivan with two men inside on Morris Avenue.

The violent impact tore the minivan apart, killing the person in the passenger seat.

Essex County prosecutors say the two drivers were taken to the hospital. Both are expected to survive.

Police say the truck that was speeding belongs to Essex Plumbing Supply. Police have not released the name of the victims.
