1 dead, 1 injured in overnight Newark fire (11/6/13)

NEWARK - Fire officials say one person died in an overnight fire in Newark.

The fire broke out in a basement apartment at the Evelyn Arms apartments on Lake Street at around 5:30 a.m.

Newark Fire Department Captain John Brown says one other victim was taken to a nearby hospital with burns.

Everyone living in the building was evacuated while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze. They have since been allowed to return to their homes.

Authorities have not yet identified the victims.
