NEWARK - Newark police say one suspect was arrested and another is being sought after a robbery this morning that left a retired Florham Park police officer and one of the suspects wounded.
Investigators say the two suspects fired shots at the retired officer, who was working as a cash deliveryman. The former cop was bringing money to an ATM on Elm Street in the Ironbound section of Newark when the shots were fired. Police say the former cop, who was carrying $400,000, returned fire, wounding one of the suspects in the leg.
Officials say one man fled on foot, while the other man grabbed the bag of money and fled in a station wagon before crashing a block away near the corner of Elm and Lafayette streets. Police arrested him at the crash site.
Authorities say the second suspect is still on the loose tonight and a $10,000 reward is being offered, but police haven't released a description.
Newark and Florham Park police have not yet identified the former officer for safety reasons.
