Extra police patrols at Newark Jewish cemeteries are helping.
"It's a wonderful thing they do," says Susan Kobren, of Greenbrook. "It helps me feel connected."
There are over 100 Jewish cemeteries in Newark, a city where the Jewish population once thrived. Many descendents are hesitant and worried to return.
Police step up patrols at the cemeteries each year between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, a time when many Jews pay respect to the dead.
Beefed up patrols for mourners will be offered Oct. 5 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
