Some Newark police officers are being praised for helping to save a man’s life.
The officers were called to the Route 78 overpass on Monday for reports of a distraught man threatening to jump. The officers were able to convince him to safely come down.
“My partner was able to give him some words of encouragement. Express to him how he can relate to some of his struggles and how he had situations that he overcame,” says Officer Abdul-Aziz Yasin.
The police sergeant says that the officers are versed in de-escalation training and were able to convince the man to come down within 10 minutes.
The man was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
