(06/02/06) NEWARK ? Parents in Newark plan to put up a fight after education officials decided to close two of the city?s elementary schools.

Education officials say cuts in state aid are forcing them to shut down Warren Street School and Clinton Avenue School. They are also cutting extracurricular activities and shuffling staff. According to parents, the moves are only going to hurt the children in the long run. Many parents believe the closures will further overcrowd the city?s schools.

Students from Clinton Avenue School will attend Avon Avenue School or another nearby location. Warren Street students will go to another school less than a mile away by bus. Parents plan on telling education officials how they feel at the State House on June 8. School officials did not return calls for comment.
