Aviation officials have unveiled plans they hope will make traveling easier at Newark Liberty International Airport and other airports across the country.

The FAA will start the plans next week for the Thanksgiving holiday and say they may be used again if they appear to work. About 27 million people are expected to get on planes within the next 12 days.

One of the changes allows planes taking off from Newark to fan out in multiple directions. A similar plan will also be used at Philadelphia International Airport. The FAA will also let more planes landing at Newark and JFK to use some runways simultaneously, which would hopefully boost capacity at the airports.

FAA officials hope the changes will get rid of the long lines and delays during the holiday season.

Meanwhile, on Thursday President Bush announced some unused military airspace from Maine to Florida will be opened up for commercial planes to use. The ?Thanksgiving express lane? will be opened from Wednesday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 25.Related information:TSA
