The Hudson County prosecutor has released new surveillance video of a fatal hit-and-run in Hoboken in the hopes that the public can help identify the driver of the SUV that killed a man over the weekend.

"It's a little bit like right now finding a needle in a haystack," says Hudson County Prosecutor Ester Suarez.

Investigators are hoping to identify the vehicle that struck and killed 21-year-old Zachary Simmons as he tried to cross the street at Sixth Street and Willow Avenue early Saturday morning. Simmons was slammed into a parked car and didn't survive his injuries. The driver did not stop to help. 

"We know it to be a black SUV. We believe it to be an Escalade but we can't rule out that it could be a Yukon or Tahoe," Suarez says. "We are looking at both sides of the [Hudson River]. We do believe the individual was driving south on Willow Avenue and we believe the individual probably left Hoboken."

Surveillance video from several nearby cameras show the SUV fleeing the area, but each time the vehicle is recorded, there is no clear shot of the driver or the license plate.

Police say that the vehicle is believed to have New York license plates and could possibly have front-end damage.

Investigators fear time may be running out to find that car because the driver may be in the process of repairing it.

Anyone who believes they may know the SUV or the driver is urged to call the Hoboken police or Hudson County prosecutor.
