Last month, the Paterson School District closed more than 50 schools for fire code violations. Now, a new report has uncovered more problems in the schools.

The latest report is dated September 5, days after schools in Paterson were shut down. In the report, environmental inspection firm Garden State Environmental found nearly 40 pages of problems in chemistry and biology labs at more than 30 schools. Some of the violations include missing or expired fire extinguishers and improper use of extension cords.

The report calls the problems fire hazards that must be addressed. Paterson Mayor Joe Torres says he is getting the state involved in the inspections. Torres adds that the hazards in the report are different from the ones found by fire code inspectors last month.

The district was given 30 days to correct the previous fire code violations. It has less than two weeks before that time is up.
