A park in Boonton has been revamped in a new chapter of a toxic history.
Pepe Field and Playground used to be a dumping site for a chemical company. The site has been cleaned and has been redesigned as a park for children of all ages – including those with disabilities. After the park shut down twice within two years, it is finally open.
"It's a place to come that is safe because it’s fenced in. It's a place to come so kids can get their energy out if they have sensory issues. They can do whatever they need to do… and the basketball court is always in use all the time by all ages of children and adults,” says Council Member Edina Renfro-Michel.
The park has new slides, seated spinners and a rope bridge.
