New Jersey towns cleaning up in celebration of Earth Day

The city of Paterson held a flag raising ceremony this morning at City Hall to commemorate the first Earth Day in 1970.

Today is Earth Day, and several towns and cities around New Jersey are taking part in celebrations to mark the day.

Paterson’s flag raising

The city of Paterson held a flag raising ceremony this morning at City Hall to commemorate the first Earth Day in 1970.
The city is working to recruit more young people to find solutions for climate change. Mayor Andre Sayegh is set to announce a partnership with Bloomberg philanthropies' youth climate action fund.

Newton supports local farmers at event

A nonprofit called Local Share held an event Saturday in Newton to showcase sustainable farming.
Dozens of people showed up to support local farmers and celebrate the mission of the Foodshed Alliance.

Volunteers collect about 5 tons of trash in Kearny

More than 160 volunteers helped to clean south Kearny Bay and local waterways on Sunday.
Volunteers collected over 300 bags of trash, weighing about 5 tons, in honor of Earth Day and National Volunteer Week, which is from April 21-27.
