New Jersey teen trains for horse competition
A teenager from New Jersey is training for a competition this summer that involves mustang horses, which are known for their sometimes unpredictable temperaments.
Catherine Zimmerman is at Seaton Hackney Stables in Morristown seven days a week. While already an accomplished rider, the 13-year-old is learning to train horses now more than ever because she will be dealing with her new mustang, Monche.
Zimmerman says she has already taught Monche several commands in the two weeks she has had her. At 2 years old, Monche is too young for Zimmerman to ride, but she says she'll be able to next year.
Zimmerman and Monche will have to learn a choreographed routine to perform at a competition in Massachusetts. Zimmerman will be among others competing to prove that mustangs can be domesticated.
