Several New Jersey organizations have gotten together to help animals and pets that have been affected by Hurricane Florence in the Carolinas.
New Jersey-based Pet ResQ Inc. founder Robin Urman says that she is doing what she can to help the animals displaced, abandoned or injured by the storm.
“The calls and requests come in literally every five minutes,” she says. “When it comes to disaster relief, it’s for any living thing that needs help.”
Pet ResQ Inc. has teamed up with Hackensack University Medical Center’s Fitness and Wellness Powered by the New York Giants. The Giants offered their Maywood facility as a donation drop.
“When we heard that Hurricane Florence struck, we wanted to be a part of it in any way we could,” says general manager Chris Ferrarese.
The groups have already collected hundreds of pounds of food and treats for the animals. Now they are looking for items like leashes, kitty litter and other items pets may need. And they also want items for the human owners.
“If you go into your bathroom, look around. Everything you see they don’t have. They don’t have toothbrushes, clean underwear, nothing,” Urman says.
Pet ResQ Inc. is also in talks with United Airlines to get some help flying the supplies down south. The group says that their ultimate goal is to get their own transport vehicle so that they can deliver supplies, but also bring back any animals that need new homes.
More information about donations can be found at Pet ResQ Inc.’s website.
