New Jersey residents are getting ready to deal with back-to-back snowstorms that are expected to come to the state.
The first one was expected during the Thursday overnight hours into Friday morning. The second should arrive Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
Slick conditions are expected on New Jersey’s roadways Friday morning. The State Department of Transportation is urging people to work from home if possible to limit the amount to traffic on the roadways. This will allow DOT crews to plow and salt the roads.
Crews have already been out treating the roadways with a brine solution that should help the roads from freezing.
“It’s never too early so it’s good to do it early and be prepared,” says Mike Beniquez of West Orange.
Beniquez works at Mt. Carmel Academy. He says that during the last major snowstorm in November he had to stay overnight at the school with the children because school buses couldn’t move.
Conditions Friday morning could cause some delayed openings at school, but there should not be too many cancellations. Forecasters say that most of the snow will end by late Friday morning.
But another snowstorm this weekend should bring several inches of snow. News 12 forecasters say that temperatures Sunday should be in the upper-40s or low-50s, which will melt some of the snow. But temperatures late Sunday night into Monday morning are expected to drop below freezing, meaning a refreeze of what fell during the weekend.
DOT officials are especially warning New Jerseyans to stay of the roadways as much as possible during the weekend if they can.
