The National Weather Service confirms that an EF1 tornado touched down in Morris County as storms swept across the state late Thursday night into early Friday.

The National Weather Service confirms that an EF1 tornado touched down in Morris County as storms swept across the state late Thursday night into early Friday of last week.
It said Sunday that a preliminary investigation revealed that the tornado began in Harding Township around 12:23 a.m. Friday and ended in Florham Park Borough about five minutes later. The tornado crossed into parts of Chatham Township and Madison Borough.

The tornado had estimated maximum wind speeds of 100 mph.
The service says that the tornado had a "somewhat discontinuous damage path" as it snapped and uprooted numerous trees along a 4.9-mile stretch.
Madison had declared a state of emergency and closed schools on Friday in the wake of the storms.
No fatalities or injuries were reported, but there was damage to property.
