Nation watches first Clinton, Trump showdown at LI university
Presidential nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump squared off tonight in their first one-on-one debate at Hofstra University on Long Island.
The debate was held inside the David Mack arena. Millions were expected to watch the two candidates go head-to-head.
Only about 1,000 tickets were given out for the event. Tickets mainly went to security, media and Hofstra students.
NBC's Lester Holt asked the questions to the candidates. His colleague, Matt Lauer, was criticized for not fact-checking Donald Trump during a Town Hall on national security.
Tonight's questions were based on three general topics: America's Direction, Achieving Prosperity, and Securing America.
