Mother devastated over loss of son to gun violence
A corrections officer from Jersey City says that she is heartbroken over the fatal shooting of her only son.
Harriet Wilson tells News 12 New Jersey that when she found out her son, 19-year-old Javonte Galbreath, died, she was devastated.
"I lost my baby, my only child. I don't know how I'm going to go on," she says.
Jersey City police responded to reports of shots fired at the corner of Ocean and Winfield avenues just after 8 pm. Thursday. After a short investigation, they found Galbreath on the ground two blocks away.
He had been shot at least once. He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, but died from his injuries.
Wilson says that she has a message for the suspects who killed her son.
"I just want them to turn themselves in, because that was my only child. My heart stopped beating last night," she says.
The Hudson County Prosecutor Homicide Unit is investigating the shooting. Anyone who might have any information is urged to call the Homicide Unit at 201-915-1345.
