Montclair State University is holding multiple graduations over days to limit crowds to 500 people.
The College of the Arts, School of Communication and Media, and both the Music and Art and Design schools all walked Sunday.
"This is a very important moment for them," says Andrew Mees, a spokesperson for the school. "Most of them are the first in their family to graduate from college so we wanted to give them this opportunity and give them this moment because we know how important it is to them."
MSU Graduate Rebecca Eugene says, "I'm still trying to get the feeling of, 'Oh my god I am graduating.' Because the way everything happened to get to this moment...it was just like, 'Here is your diploma. Here is the Zoom.' But to walk across the stage - oh my god, I'm actually doing this right now.'"
The university is having a total of 23 ceremonies over the next week.
