More than 100 high school aged kids in Monmouth County are learning this week what it takes to be in the field of law enforcement.
Drill instructions, long distance races, morning workouts and a lesson in discipline.
It's all part of the Monmouth County Sheriff's Youth Week, and for the last 30 years -- more than 100 teenagers volunteer to sacrifice some of their summer vacation to experience the demanding field.
“It's definitely a foot in the door, getting hands on experience, a little taste of the police academy,” says Mya Ostermiller, Kutztown University criminal justice major. “You meet people. Connections -- it's great."
Information on how to sign up for the program is available at all Monmouth County schools.
Some activities are inside, while others are outside.
