State leaders are seeking financial and educational help for those students affected by the closing of Star Career Academy.

U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez is leading the effort, and sent the Department of Education a letter asking them to extend federal loan forgiveness. The senator does not want the students to pay for the school's mistakes.

The trade school has campuses around the tri-state area, including several in New Jersey. The school alerted students via text and email that it would be closing down without warning. Officials from the school cite financial issues and say that it was not feasible to keep the school open.

Several students who spoke to News 12 New Jersey say that they were only weeks away from completing their education.
