A federal corruption probe centering on Sen. Bob Menendez could be heard by a Florida grand jury.

During a status conference held in U.S. District Court in Newark Wednesday, the senator's attorney, Abbe Lowell, said he hasn't decided whether or not to make a formal request for a change in venue, but that he is giving it serious thought.

Lowell said that since the government's probe began in Florida, it might be best to move the case there since it is likely that many potential witnesses live there.

A trial date of mid-July was initially proposed, but attorneys are now working to delay it until October.

Menendez is accused of trying to get the State Department to intervene in a contract dispute involving a business his friend Dr. Salomon Melgen owned in the Dominican Republic and advocating for Melgen in a Medicare billing dispute for several years.
