The mayor of Trenton says that the city missed out on hundreds of thousands of dollars in state funds to fix the city’s roads due to a mistake by a city employee.

Over 500 New Jersey municipalities will be getting money from the state for road and transit projects. But Mayor Eric Jackson says that a Department of Public Works employee neglected to file an application for the funds, meaning Trenton will not be receiving money.

“As the leader of this city I'm extremely dismayed,” Jackson said.

Jackson says that the employee will face immediate disciplinary action for what he calls “a debacle.”

The city does have some money for repairs, but the oversight means that four to six blocks of city roads will not be paved.

Mayor Jackson will not be running for a second term in Trenton. He says that rectifying the issue may be up to his successor who would take office in July.
