Man accused of stabbing nurse appears in court
The man accused of stabbing a University Hospital nurse in the employee parking lot Sunday night faced a judge Friday.
Brian Anglin, 56, faces aggravated assault, robbery and weapons charges after he allegedly stabbed the 60-year-old nurse during a botch robbery. He was arrested Thursday night after a police manhunt.
The nurse, whose name was not released, underwent surgery for her injuries and is expected to recover.
The attack on the hospital grounds is prompting the nurses’ union and hospital employees to call for more security, especially during shift changes.
Hospital officials have had some meetings regarding the attack, but union leaders say that they are not satisfied with the results.
“I think that [the staff] are afraid. They want answers and they feel as though we’ve been failed,” says HPAE Local 5089’s Wanda Caudle-Grimsley. “Especially with this meeting today, there wasn’t much of a difference coming out.”
Representatives from six different unions have written a letter to Rutgers University President Robert Barchi saying that they remain “gravely concerned not only for the welfare of the nurse who was attacked, but all patients and employees.” Rutgers owns the parking lot where the stabbing occurred.
Rutgers University issued a statement tonight saying the university is "working diligently to make safety precautions even stronger, including adding more patrols and providing security escorts to parking lots, parking decks and bus stops around the clock."
