(AP) - Authorities say a middle school teacher exchanged explicit photos and videos with a child and also had sexual contact with the youth.
Stephanie Carafa is charged with aggravated criminal sexual contact and child endangerment. It wasn't known Tuesday if the 32-year-old Lodi resident has retained an attorney.
Bergen County prosecutors didn't disclose the victim's gender or say if that person was a student of Carafa, who teaches at the Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Lodi. They would only say the victim was under the age of 16.
Authorities learned of the allegations on Friday and arrested Carafa on Saturday. A detention hearing for her is due to be held Friday.
Carafa's father is the mayor of Lodi, while one of her cousins serves on its school board.
