Police have arrested a Linden man for allegedly killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old son.

Nadir Starks, 27, was arrested Friday evening in Rahway. Police say he had been released from prison in February.

Two-year-old Amir Phelps was found injured in his mother's apartment on East Elizabeth Avenue that morning. He died after being taken to the hospital.

The boy's grandmother was in the emergency room with his mother and Starks when they learned of his condition. She says while she was devastated, Starks showed no emotion while waiting to learn the boy's fate.

Starks is being held on $500,000 bail in the Union County Jail.
