A Delta Gas Station in Linden was issued a citation after customers complained about overcharging.
Customer Anthony Wohlrab reached out to News 12 New Jersey after he says his sister was overcharged for gas at the station on St. George Avenue. He says that his sister’s receipt said that she paid $29.44 for 12 gallons of gas. But a photo of the gas pump shows that she was charged $24 for 10 gallons.
“My response to [the attendant] was, ‘I don’t care how long you’ve been pumping gas, you owe me $5 and I want my $5,’” Wohlrab said.
Wohlrab eventually called Linden police and the gas station gave him a refund. He then posted about the experience on social media and found that many other people have said that they also have had a bad experience with this gas station.
“I feel like they're doing this to everybody it's not fair,” Wohlrab said. "My belief is that after he charges the card now he'll be over on his drawer, and just put the $5 in his pocket."
News 12 New Jersey tried to speak to the manager of the gas station, but he refused to answer any questions.
But he was forced to speak with agents from Union County Weights and Measures who showed up for an inspection. The station was issued a violation for improper signage. The signs including proper pricing and explanation of taxes were immediately fixed, but ownership could still face fines.
Officials with Union County Weights and Measures tell News 12 that they have received complaints in the past about this Delta gas station. They are in the process of a complete review of the management's practices and inspection of the pumps.
Linden police are also investigating to see if any crimes were committed.
