The Linden Fire Department is being hailed for its heroism beyond the call of duty.
According to Jonathan Moran's mother, her son was assaulted on his bus in more than one bullying incident. Witnesses said a group of students called Jonathan names, made fun of his sneakers and hit him.
The fire department responded to the incident and treated Jonathan at the scene, choosing to take him home rather than putting him back on the bus.
Later, several firefighters came back to Jonathan's house with gifts, including a new pair of shoes.
Jonathan met with his new firefighter friends Saturday for a barbecue.
