A lawyer says a New Jersey police officer will appear before a judge on charges in a wrong-way crash in New York that killed a fellow officer and a friend.
Linden Police Officer Pedro Abad is scheduled to appear in court in Staten Island on Monday.
Attorney Mario Galluci tells News 12 New Jersey he expects the 27-year-old will face several charges in connection to the crash.
A spokesman says the Staten Island district attorney had no comment.
Galluci says Abad uses a wheelchair because of leg injuries, has a disabled arm and a speech impediment. He's expected to undergo another surgery on Sept. 29.
Authorities say Abad had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit when he drove the wrong way and crashed into a tractor-trailer in March.
Linden Officer Frank Viggiano and resident Joseph Rodriguez were killed. Another officer, Patrik Kudlac, was critically injured.
