Keansburg super set to retire with six-figure payday
Embattled Keansburg Superintendent Barbara Trzeszkowski is days from retiring with her six-figure payoff.
Trzeszkowski attended her final board of education meeting as superintendent Tuesday. At the end of the month, she will retire after 38 years of service and collect $740,000 of unused sick and vacation time on top of her $120,000 per year pension.
The superintendent was all business at the meeting, listening to the plight of a young teacher begging to keep her job.
The state had attempted to block her retirement package, but Trzeszkowski's contract is airtight, according to officials. The state Assembly tried to pass a bill to reform superintendents' contacts, but the bill did not make it past the state Senate.
Critics in Keansburg and across the state are outraged the woman would take the money from one of the state's poorest school districts.
Trzeszkowski's successor has not been named. She will officially leave her post June 30.
