July Fourth weekend kicks off in New Jersey
Many New Jersey residents hit the road for the long weekend to celebrate Independence Day.
It's estimated that over 1 million New Jerseyans will travel this holiday weekend, which is 300,000 more than on Memorial Day weekend.
Friday afternoon, the Garden State Parkway was jam-packed with travelers with heavy delays while heading down the shore.
By Friday night, most of the traffic subsided making for an easier trip on New Jersey's roadways.
To make traveling even better, gas prices on the parkway were around $2.60, down from $3.37 at this time last year.
Those residents who did not want to head down south chose instead to celebrate at New Jersey's various state parks for camping. Hundreds of New Jerseyans pitched their tents at Spruce Run in Hunterdon County to celebrate the holiday.
News 12 New Jersey meteorologists predict the weather this weekend will be fair, with Saturday seeing some light rain. Sunday should be mostly sunny with temperatures in the 80s.
