Ice sculptor carves out ‘The Nutcracker’
A rendition of "The Nutcracker" in Tinton Falls is carved out of ice instead of on stage.
"The first thing you hear when they walk through the curtain is the screams of like wow," says ice sculptor Ed Jarrett.
There is usually a wow factor when you step into the wintry wonderland inside Ice King and Cold storage on Route 33. Seventy-five tons of ice has been carved, chiseled and brushed into the characters and scenes from "The Nutcracker."

It took Jarrett and his team 44 days to bring Clara, the nutcracker, all the mice and toy soldiers, plus the Sugar Plum Fairy, Mother Ginger and all the dancers to life.

It's just 15 degrees in the room, so you definitely need your gloves, hat, and winter coat.
"But there's a warming area halfway through, so when you get to scene seven, you can walk out. There's a little warming stick you can stand under the heat for a minute if you need to," says Jarrett.

In addition, utilizing the warehouse during slower months in the ice business also helps heat up profits.
"The money part is definitely a good thing," says Frankie Lomangino, with Ice King and Cold Storage. "Hopefully we found something to help us out."
