U.S. Sens. Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal warned Hurricane Maria refugees living in Connecticut Friday that they could lose their federal money soon.

The emergency money is used to house people in hotels and shelters after a storm. Almost a year later, the government is still spending that money because they have no plan to permanently house evacuees.

Many evacuees are still living in motel rooms.

A federal judge has ruled that the money can be used until Aug. 6.

Sens. Murphy and Blumenthal also urged the government to start using the permanent money Congress has already allocated months ago.

Connecticut has 13,000 evacuees from Hurricane Maria.
