Hunters killed 94 bears on the first day of New Jersey's six-day bear hunt.

There were 42 bears killed during opening day in 2018.

Numbers provided by the Division of Fish & Wildlife did not break down the zones where the bears were harvested Monday.

The hunt is restricted to five zones. Gov. Phil Murphy has again prohibited hunting on state lands.

During the first three days, hunters can only use bows and arrows. Archers and muzzleloading rifle hunters can participate on Thursday and Friday.

The bear hunt for firearms only is set to begin Dec. 9.

Hunters killed 225 bears in 2018, the lowest amount since 2003.
