While most are driving away from the powerful storm approaching Florida, some New Yorkers are flying into Hurricane Dorian's path.
SUNY Purchase graduate Shannon Lalime now lives in West Palm Beach, Florida, which may take a direct hit from Hurricane Dorian. Living two blocks away from the evacuation zone, she has chosen not to evacuate.
"I'm talking to friends that live up in the Westchester area, and they are like, 'Oh you know, we are going to Long Island this weekend, we are going to the beach this weekend,' here I am at the beach house and not able to go to the beach this weekend," says Lalime.
The Red Cross is also gearing up for the storm. They say five volunteers from New York, two of whom are from the Hudson Valley, flew down to the region Friday.
After the storms roll through, more Hudson Valley volunteers are expected to make the trip south.
"It's being there, people are at their darkest times you know, just knowing that there is somebody there to walk beside you during the hardest time is everything," says Abigail Adams, of Red Cross Greater New York.
