The mayor of Hoboken and officials at SUEZ Water traded barbs over Twitter Tuesday after the city experienced its 16th water main break in 64 days.

The latest water main break happened on Hudson Street and Hudson Place and caused the closure of the Hoboken bus terminal during the evening rush hour.

Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla posted about the water main break on Twitter.

“Another massive water main break near the Path Station. This confirms the [City of Hoboken’s] concerns about [SUEZ Water]. Residents don’t deserve this and we are now even more determined to execute our plan announced earlier today,” Bhalla posted.

Earlier Tuesday, Bhalla and other Hoboken officials announced plans to investigate SUEZ and possibly file a lawsuit. They also said that they will try to find a different utility company to take over Hoboken’s water system.

“This is an issue of the health, welfare and public safety of residents of the city of Hoboken. I take nothing more seriously as mayor and I'll do everything within my power as mayor to make sure this problem is addressed immediately,” Bhalla said after the latest water main break.

But SUEZ officials say that Hoboken’s infrastructure is to blame for the issues. After Bhalla’s tweet, SUEZ fired back.

.@RaviBhalla Actually, what the residents don't deserve is infrastructure dating back to the 1800s, but we'll fix it while you've got it, the tweet said.

The tweet also contained a picture of a water pipe with the year 1897 stamped on it.

SUEZ says that crews have shut down the water main in order to do an emergency repair. The company says that some customers may lose water service, but assure the public that a boil water advisory is not necessary.
