A man who admitted his role in a triple murder in a Newark schoolyard has lost his bid to have the state Supreme Court hear his appeal.
The high court revealed Wednesday it won't consider Shahid Baskerville's argument that his sentence was excessive. He also said his case should not have been tried in adult court.
Baskerville was 15 when he and five other men and boys attacked four college-bound friends in Newark's Mount Vernon School playground in August 2007.
Three of the victims were robbed and then lined up against a wall and fatally shot. A fourth who survived was sexually assaulted, shot and stabbed.
Baskerville pleaded guilty to robbery, conspiracy and aggravated sexual contact and received a 30-year sentence.
His co-defendants are serving multiple life sentences totaling nearly 1,000 years.
